Distaff

traditional spinning accessory
A decorative attachment for your Ashford Traveller spinning wheel.  Historically used to hold flax fibres when spinning linen, but also suitable for other fibres including wool. For fine fibres try using in conjunction with the quill spindle. Assembly is required. You will need a drill with a 2mm bit to drill two holes into the Traveller's frame, before you can screw on the distaff base.

to dress a distaff
Lay the distaff down on a flat surface. Lay fiber down parallel to the length of the distaff and then gently gather the fibre around it. Secure with a a ribbon at the top, then loosely wind the ribbon down around the fibre bundle to hold it all in place. To spin, draw down from the base of the bundle.
